Other Educational Credentials:
Acceptance into an MLS program and continual participation in classes until degree is obtained.

     Masters Degree in a program of Library and Information Studies preferred

Other Requirements:
Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and techniques of library science. The successful candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to deal effectively with the general public (all ages, adults and youth) and staff. Must have the ability to plan and manage projects and budgets, and possess diverse computer skills including experience with online searching, local area networks, the Internet, and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).

Job Description/Duties:
The Rapid City Public Library seeks an energetic individual to coordinate library-wide training for patrons and for staff, and to serve as the frontline coordinator for the Public Services Department. This entry-level position provides an opportunity for development of personnel and project management skills, and to oversee reference services for the public. Duties also include: coordinate staff projects; assist with training; maintain department procedure manuals; prepare reports and correspondence related to policy, procedures and the strategic plan.

The Technology Initiatives Librarian I will be actively engaged in planning and implementing Library 2.0 concepts and services. This position will coordinate the work of nine Public Services staff, and reports to the Public Services Supervisor.

Overall staff includes 38.9 FTE; 2006 circulation was over 617,000 and the collection contains approximately 176,000 volumes. The library is housed in one main facility near downtown Rapid City, with plans to open a satellite site in January 2008. That satellite site will be a joint school district/public library operation, located in an underserved area of the community.
