Job Description

Position Summary The person in this position is responsible for coordinating and supervising the cataloging and processing of all Library materials, the management of the Library's software and OPAC system. This position will also perform reference and bibliographic instruction utilizing traditional print and online resources. Oversees the development and maintenance of the collection of the Library. Processes Inter-library loan requests. Reports to the Library Director. Performance responsibilities 1. Catalogs and processes Library materials, including both copy and original cataloging. 2. Manages interlibrary loan. This includes both borrowing and lending Library materials. 3. Manages the OPAC system and other library software. 4. Supervises library staff in the processing of Library materials. 5. Creates reports and assists director in compiling statistics. 6. Assists in the use of library equipment and does basic troubleshooting. 7. Covers circulation desk and assists with bibliographic instruction when necessary. 8. Assists faculty, students and staff in the development of research skills. 9. Provides reference services to all faculty, students, and staff. 10. Promotes, develops and conducts Library bibliographic instruction including the use of online resources and the OPAC for faculty, students, and staff. 11. Serves as the coordinator for collection development with faculty and students. 12. Participates in the selection of equipment and software for the Library. 13. Other duties as assigned by the Library Director.

Additional Info & Requirements

This position is a temporary contract position of 20 hours per week from February to June 2007 with a possibility of renewal and potential full-time status as of July 2007. The schedule is flexible, but will include some evenings and maybe some Saturdays.Prefer experience/knowledge in reference services and bibliographic instruction.

HR Info

1. Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution. 2. Knowledge of AACR II cataloging rules, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and Library of Congress classification schedules. 3. Familiarity with collection management procedures, including collection development and the preservation and proper handling of Library materials. 4. Knowledge of and familiarity with OPACs, OCLC, and the Internet.
