The Town of Vail, Colorado, the premier mountain community and international resort, is seeking a highly-motivated Library professional to join our fast-paced and rewarding organization. Vail is centrally located in the Rocky Mountains along Interstate 70, offering easy access to Denver (100 miles to the east). Completely surrounded by the White River National Forest, Vail’s permanent population of 4,500 swells to over 50,000 during the winter ski season. The Town of Vail is seeking a managerial level Librarian to oversee day-to-day library operations that includes reference services, collection development, technology, special programming, membership card policies, staff development, etc. This position is a department head with strategic planning and operational responsibility for up to 12 full-time and part-time staff that provide library services to Vail’s citizens and guests. The Town Librarian manages the collection of more than 65,000 items, 10,000 memberships including Vail residents and guests from all over the world and is responsible for a total annual budget of more than $800,000. Town Librarian, Salary DOQ up to $83,257 annually: We are looking for a self-motivated, dedicated individual with demonstrated abilities in managing a diverse workforce with seven-day a week operations. Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in related field (Master’s in Library Science preferred), plus at least 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible management experience delivering and overseeing library (or related) services. Municipal library experience preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must possess excellent communications skills (both orally and written), and a strong customer-service and team orientation.
