Job Description
Date Posted: February 23, 2007 Location: Children’s Department Central Library, 13th & Broadway Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include evenings and weekends. Salary Range: $18.28- $22.83 per hour starting salary range; $18.28 - $29.15 per hour full salary range. City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered. Duties and Responsibilities: Creates positive experiences for library customers by performing professional library work providing reference, reader advisory, story times, community outreach and collection maintenance. Designs, presents and/or establishes a variety of programs for children of all ages. Communicates effectively about children’s services issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and administration. Interacts with customers of all ages with an emphasis on the needs of children. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of children’s information needs, collection maintenance and reader and media guidance. In-depth knowledge of children’s literature. Knowledge of theories of infant, child and adolescent learning and development. Working knowledge of computers and databases. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Skill in interpreting, communicating, and presenting information, both orally and in writing. Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate, and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Strong organizational skills. Ability to speak Spanish is desirable, but not required.
