Job Description

Location: Bear Valley Branch Library, 5171 W. Dartmouth Ave. at S. Sheridan Blvd. Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours. Background Info: Become a Senior Librarian at the Bear Valley Branch Library and bring a materials rich environment to customers of all ages. The key role of this branch’s service delivery will be to meet the needs of the library customer who is looking to the library to provide the newest and most popular materials. A strong emphasis will be placed on providing materials, reference services and programming for adults in an efficient and merchandised environment. . Duties and Responsibilities: Creates lifelong library customers by implementing and managing library services designed for customers of all ages seeking popular materials and quick service. Oversees the design of engaging displays for all ages. Works with a team of Senior Librarians and a Manager to develop, design, and implement system-wide services. Oversees daily operations of a branch location including personnel, scheduling and customer service issues. Communicates effectively about the Library, issues and initiatives with customers, staff, and administration. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of library services for all ages. Knowledge of publishing trends and popular materials. Skill in providing strong, passionate and compassionate leadership. Skill in the recruitment, selection, training and motivation of a brilliant staff. Skill in providing reference, reader’s and media advisory service to all ages. Skill in developing eye-catching display design and merchandizing of library materials. Skill in using technology in offering library services. Ability to select, train, motivate and supervise professional and clerical staff. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Experience: Two years of post-MLS professional-level work in a library.
