Job Description

Location: Sheridan Library, 3201 W. Oxford Ave., Sheridan, CO 80236, Outreach Services (Bookmobile and Senior Stops), and other Library District locations as needed, required. Starting Salary: Starting at $16.34 per hour, plus benefits. Hours: 20-hour, part-time, non-exempt position. Schedules will be set two weeks ahead of time, will vary, and may change with little notice to accommodate last-minute scheduling needs of the Library District. Based on this need, flexible availability is required. Role: Assists patrons in the use of the library by delivering outstanding and personalized service in all areas. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 40% SERVICE DELIVERY - Provides library services through readers’, viewers’, and listeners’ advisory, intermediate reference, and by merchandising the collection and arranging material. 40% PATRON ASSISTANCE – Proactively assists patrons by giving directions, checking the catalog and shelf for requested items, helping patrons with use of online catalogs, databases and their functions, promoting literacy and library programming; opening of library accounts, demonstrating the use of self-check, and collecting fines and fees in order to satisfy requests for basic services. 20% ASSISTANCE WITH TECHNOLOGY - Assists patrons by instructing them on how to use library and personal technology to reserve materials, make a reservation for a computer, print information, use the internet, and use Microsoft Office; assists patrons with personal technology related questions, including initial set-up, beginning to advanced use, and troubleshooting in order to satisfy requests for assistance with technology. Expectations: 1. CUSTOMER RELATIONS – Outstanding and Personalized customer service. 2. SERVICE DELIVERY - Effectively delivered services. 3. PATRON ASSISTANCE - Effective proactive assistance in basic library services. 4. ASSISTANCE WITH TECHNOLOGY - Effective assistance in the use of technology.

Additional Info & Requirements

Fluency in conversational Spanish language, including understanding, and speaking, required. Must have valid Colorado Driver’s License, and acceptable driving record, required. Must be 21 years of age, or older, required. This is due to insurance requirements for driving Library District vehicles. Ability to drive Library District Sprinter Van, required. Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required. Schedules will be set two weeks ahead of time, will vary, and may change with little notice to accommodate last-minute scheduling needs of the Library District. Reliable transportation and ability to travel to Library District locations as needed with little notice, required. Intermediate technology skills, including intermediate assessment scores for Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and Outlook, required. Ability to be mobile 100% of the time and sit as needed; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, 10% of the time, required. Two years to five years of similar or related experience, preferred. Ability to work with varying demographics, required. Knowledge of informational databases, preferred. Bachelor’s level degree, preferred. Committed to provide outstanding and personalized customer service to patrons, coworkers and customers. Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun. Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, an Outreach Service that provides mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
