Job Description

Director, Gunnison County (Colorado) Library District The Gunnison County Library District seeks a dynamic Director with demonstrated leadership skills and professionalism, relevant library administrative experience, excellent communication skills, and the vision and talent to take the district to the next level of excellence to better serve the county. The district includes libraries in Gunnison and Crested Butte, a small library annex in Somerset, and a Literacy Action Program. Gunnison County's population is approximately 15,000 and yet more than 147,000 patrons visited our libraries in 2011. This historically rich county boasts Western State Colorado University, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, an outstanding school system, a multitude of recreational opportunities, a regional airport, a fine hospital and a variety of other recreational and professional amenities. The Director reports to the Library Board of Trustees (appointed by the Gunnison County Commission) and has oversight responsibility for operating and maintaining the system, including: • financial management • management of library personnel • providing visionary leadership for the creation, development and implementation of innovative service and cutting edge technology and • developing effective and positive working relationships with city and community leaders and with the local media. Qualifications include an ALA accredited MLS or MLIS degree, relevant experience as noted above and a demonstrated ability to secure grant funding. Especially important to the Library Board is an understanding of, and experience with, a variety of current and emerging technologies used in libraries. Salary range is $50,000 to $65,000 plus benefits depending on qualifications.
