OtherThe Natural Hazards Library is currently in the process of migrating to a new open source ILS and seeks an independent contractor to perform a variety of complex technical and specialized cataloging functions. Additional tasks include developing protocols for record entry and instructing library staff to perform technical tasks. Other nonessential or peripheral duties may be required.
Master's Degree
1 years of professional experience required
Spanish is Not Required
1-2 years experience cataloging a variety of materials or formats
Experience with complex or original copy cataloging using Anglo-American Cataloging Rules Second Edition (AACR2) for description, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) for subject analysis
Knowledge of MARC bibliographic and authorities formats
Knowledge of and interest in current issues, trends, and emerging standards in cataloging
Demonstrated knowledge of current library technologies, standards, and best practices,
Working knowledge of metadata standards – particularly Dublin Core
Excellent oral and written communications skills to include proofreading and editing
Demonstrated ability to work effectively alone or in a team environment
Demonstrated organizational, analytical, decision-making, problem-solving and planning skills
Demonstrated ability to create & document cataloging workflows for use by others and to train others
