PublicUnder the general supervision of the Library and Arts Director, provides leadership, planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of library literacy services with a strong customer focus, including the areas of adult one-on-one tutoring, jail-based instruction, GED testing and instruction, Reading Buddies for children, computer-assisted instruction, resource materials collection for adult new readers, resource materials collection for instructors, and workshops in art and writing. Implements BoulderReads! mission of helping people discover the power and joy of reading.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Reading Instruction or related field and a minimum of five years library or related experience including supervisory or managerial responsibilities and experience in the area of literacy. In-depth understanding of teaching reading, teaching writing, and serving at-risk learners (particularly adults); experience in educational assessment, grant-writing, experience managing or administering an educational or human service program, with responsibilities including but not limited to: identifying tasks and activities required to fulfill the program's mission; delegating those tasks and responsibilities to other staff members, coworkers, or volunteers; recruiting and retaining employees; developing and managing a budget, compiling reports demonstrating program effectiveness; collaborating with other departments or programs to implement a quality program. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally. Computer experience, including electronic mail, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, PowerPoint, and Excel. Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history and credit history.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree and at least one year of paid or volunteer experience working in a human service agency, nonprofit organization, and/or public library; at least one year of experience recruiting, supervising, training, and retaining volunteers; experience administering the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS), Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and other assessment tools measuring adult reading and language skills; knowledge of the Boulder area including, but not limited to, demographics, social needs, and availability of resources to meet those needs; bicultural or bilingual background (particularly of Latino or Asian background)
