Job Description

The Douglas County Libraries has a full-time (40 hrs/wk) opening for a Literacy Specialist. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified candidates who are passionate and dedicated supporters of family literacy efforts. The incumbent will organize, supervise, and direct the literacy services division of the District. The position assumes responsibility for the effective execution of programs and services in support of English Language Learners and Family Literacy, within the District’s broader program of services. The incumbent will work closely with the District’s Community Services department to integrate family literacy initiatives into programming and other various library services. The position also requires developing partnerships with community-based organizations.

Starting salary is $3094 per month with generous benefits, but could be increased to be commensurate with skills/experience. The position also requires developing partnerships with community-based organizations. The position requires broad knowledge of family literacy, including adult, young adult and child learning theories and philosophies. A proven ability to take initiative to grow, enhance and define a literacy program is required. Strong skills and abilities in developing interactive community relationships and partnerships are required. Excellent and proven oral presentation skills and written communication skills also required.
