Job Description

Location: Green Valley Ranch Branch Library, 4856 N. Andes Court Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours. Duties and Responsibilities: Creates positive experiences for library customers, individually and in groups. Plans, schedules and implements group visits for children from birth through middle school in the library and in external locations. Provides services and outreach activities designed to educate and promote library usage with an emphasis on children’s services. Provides outreach to children between the ages of 0-5 years and their caregivers. Creates and implements programming that aligns with DPL’s goals for youth during out-of-school time. Assists customers in circulation, reference and readers/media advisory activities. Works cooperatively with other staff, volunteers and supervisors. Oversees library operations as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of library services for infancy through adolescence and current research in early literacy and child/brain development. Knowledge of early literacy best practices in library and community settings. Knowledge of the Public Library Association’s ECRR initiative and supporting materials/resources. Knowledge of positive youth development practices. Knowledge of children’s literature. Skill in interpreting, communicating, and presenting information, both orally and in writing. Ability to thrive in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, volunteers and community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to be innovative, flexible and well organized. Experience: Two years of experience teaching or presenting information to children and their caregivers. Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field. Special Requirements: A background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made. Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license. Spanish language preferred, but not required.
