The Library & Information Science (LIS) Program at the University of Denver (DU) has an opening for a tenure-track faculty member at the assistant professor rank. The appointment begins September 1, 2007. One of seven programs in the College of Education at DU, LIS invites applications from candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching and have emerging research agendas in areas such as information access and retrieval, information architecture with an emphasis on information visualization or digital libraries, and information or educational technologies. DU is a high quality, private institution, and DU’s LIS faculty members take pride in preparing information professionals for leadership roles in institutions serving diverse users in dynamic, evolving environments. Students at DU choose from among six concentrations: Archives and Records Management (ARM), Information Science and Technology (IST), Knowledge Management (KM), Reference and User Services (RUS), Resource Description and Analysis (RDA), and School Library (SL). DU faculty demonstrate a user-centered perspective, incorporate adult learning theory into their teaching, advise and supervise students in academic and experiential settings, and teach core and specialized courses at the graduate level. They also serve on University, College and LIS committees and teams. Information describing the College, faculty, degree programs and research activities can be found at (www.du.edu/LIS). The LIS Program is accredited by the American Library Association. Position duties: The successful applicant will teach core and specialized courses in the areas defined above. Preferred candidates will have teaching and research interests that complement those of current members of the LIS faculty. We would especially invite applications from individuals who have expertise in information science and technologies. Qualifications: Candidates should have an earned doctorate in library and information science or a related discipline. A master’s degree in library science or an appropriate discipline, professional experience in library or information settings, and teaching experience at the graduate level are preferred for appointment at the assistant professor rank. Demonstrated potential for scholarly research, commitment to service, excellence in teaching, and working with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds are also required.
