Job Description

What You'll Do: Work downtown at the Central Library, Western History and Genealogy Department, creating positive experiences for library customers by performing professional library work including reference service and archival processing. Use electronic resources and an extensive collection to answer reference questions and locate materials for customers. Staff a busy reference desk, serving a diverse clientele of all ages. Promote community outreach and programming. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers and administration. Compile department statistics for analysis. Assist in the development and maintenance of a special library collection requiring specialized handling, security and subject expertise. Assist with social media posting for the department.

You Have: Knowledge of the history of the American West with emphasis on Denver and Colorado. Knowledge of Western History and Genealogy and reference services. Knowledge of print and electronic information retrieval. Strong knowledge of social media and its use. Skill in presenting information, both orally and in writing, especially for training library customers in the use of electronic resources. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to perform community outreach and programming. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to research and answer written reference questions.

Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service (preferred, not required).

A Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

The ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

We Provide: $19.62 - $25.50 per hour starting salary range; $19.62 - $31.39 per hour full salary range. Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include evening and weekend hours.
