Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Seeking a caring, intellectually versatile and energetic leader to manage the Sand Creek and Fountain Community Libraries. The Sand Creek Library is a hub of activity for new technology, computer classes, adult and teen programming and Literacy classes (ESL /GED). The Fountain Library is launching the Family Place providing a community center for early childhood information, parent education, socialization, emergent literacy, and family support.  You will provide the organizational knowledge, candid communication, and generous investment in people that will allow both Libraries and staff to flourish. This exempt, full-time position will direct a highly collaborative team committed to achieving the mission of the Pikes Peak Library District: to seek, engage and transform lives through library services and resources that enrich individual lives and build community. This position operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill the mission of the Library by leading the library staff and directing the daily operations of the library.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Provides excellent customer service and maintains a courteous, positive image of the library when interacting with patrons and staff
  • Maintains patron and staff confidentiality
  • Develops operating procedures and staff schedules
  • Supervises, coaches, and evaluates staff
  • Interviews, selects, and hires new staff; may develop performance improvement plans and terminate staff as necessary
  • Develops long- and short-range plans of service
  • Generates and implements specific strategies to help meet District’s strategic plan objectives
  • Develops goals and strategies for staff development and training
  • Provides leadership, guidance, direction, and assistance to staff
  • Actively promotes the library’s services through programming and community outreach
  • Represents the library as a member of professional organizations and associations; may serve on teams or advisory boards as assigned
  • Prepares, monitors, and approves budgets and reports on a periodic basis
  • Advocates branch needs to other departments
  • Reviews workload statistics and recommends staffing allocations
  • Develops and implements a facility plan (including standards for cleaning, furnishing, signage, maintenance, and storage)
  • Evaluates and manages collection
  • Serves as liaison to PPLD Friends of the Library
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Additional Info & Requirements

Three plus years of professional library experience with supervisory responsibility preferred.

Advanced knowledge of library services, best practices and procedures

Ability to cultivate a team environment that encourages personnel to work across departments

Excellent communication skills, demonstrates a “whatever-it-takes” work ethic, and models an excellent customer service attitude

Bilingual ability is a plus in serving our diverse community
