Job Description

DEFINITION: Perform responsible administrative, public service and technical tasks in support of the Longmont Public Library computer services and functions.  Perform a wide variety of technical tasks in the testing, installation, and troubleshooting of personal computer hardware and software, communications equipment, and network components.  Provide  assistance to the public in using the library’s public computer labs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Provide computer technical support to library staff.  Prepare and determine hardware and software requirements for personal computers. Install and maintain the same.  Load and configure PC software. Troubleshoot problems and perform diagnostics on network, data communications, and personal computer configurations.  Maintain activity log.  Maintain network systems such as backups, virus protection, and software patches. Assist library staff in determining appropriate types of PC components. Research hardware components, gather configuration information, and prepare equipment orders. Prepare network documentation and training notes. Assist in developing and modifying internal Information Services procedures relating to PC and software installation. Support and assist users with hardware and software problems and questions.  Communicate with service vendors as to the nature of the problem and diagnostic results. Perform training and assistance in use of PCs, network software, E-mail, the Library’s integrated software system (Sirsi Dynix) and connectivity products. Perform special projects and assignments as assigned. Prepare PCs in training lab with appropriate software and environment setup for training classes; may conduct training on specialized applications. Provide public training classes in computer and Internet basics.  Coordinate with computer operations personnel regarding system installation and solving operational problems. Assist library patrons (children, teen and adults). Provide direct assistance to customers in the library computer labs. Keep monthly and annual statistics

Additional Info & Requirements

Selection process will include complete job description review, personal interview, background investigation, criminal background check and substance screening. 

One to two years of experience with library computer systems, IBM compatible personal computers, hardware and software, and Microsoft Office programs.Experience with Novell Zenworks, Microsoft Active Directory,  Ethernet Networks  Sirsi-Dynix Horizon; Envisionware Reservation / Print management, mobile devices (tablets, smart phones, etc.), internet filtering software & security software is highly desirable.   Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency desirable.  Knowledge of routine procedures in public libraries desirable. Special qualifications: Valid Colorado Driver's License required.
