Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Seeking a friendly, outgoing, business oriented professional to join the Creative Computer Commons department at the Library 21c. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your passion for programming, public speaking while helping people find information and community resources focused on emerging technology . This position operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill PPLD’s mission by providing programming, community outreach, and leadership. This position uses comprehensive knowledge of library science, meeting facilitation, electronic databases, current technologies, and community resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works on the public service desks providing reference service to walk-ins, over the phone, via email, and instant messaging
  • Assists and instructs patrons through material and online searches, computer software applications, reference/in-depth research, community referrals, and outside sources/collections
  • Maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions
  • Promotes library services through tours, outreach, demonstrations, talks, and displays
  • Uses computers, printers, fax, and other business machines
  • Maintains currency of knowledge on business industry, with a focus on entrepreneurship, to keep library instruction on pace with emerging trends. Identifies customer needs in regards to business and entrepreneurship, and develops strategies to meet those needs including developing teaching aids and tools.
  • Teaches business classes for the public, and engages outside instructors
  • Provides business-related programming to the public
  • Provides leadership support to the Library through collaborative problem solving. Engage in effective teamwork to achieve commitment to system-wide goals through positive collaboration and effective facilitation of meetings and decision-making processes as required.
  • Serves as the “person in charge” in the absence of the C3 Manager, assume a leadership role to address emergency situations; take ownership of the public service environment to ensure the safety of staff and the public.
  • Must have flexibility to change direction/priorities based on community need
  • Coordinates efforts with the business librarian, applicable departments, and other staff in Library 21C and the District

Prefer a candidate with a minimum of one year of MLS experience working. SIRSI experience is a plus! Excellent communication skills, demonstrates a “whatever-it-takes” work ethic, is a team-player, who models an excellent customer service attitude. Bilingual ability is a plus.

Requires a valid Colorado driver’s license (or ability to obtain one) for required driving to various programs/ presentations; Requires use of a personal vehicle to travel to library programs being conducted at off-site locations; requires ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds in order to carry   and transport materials to and from different community libraries or other off-site locations as necessary
