Job Description

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides cataloging services and support to provide access to library collections, materials and information in various formats.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Catalog books and audio visual materials
  • Download item records from Baker & Taylor
  • Quality check physical shipments from the downloads
  • Maintain ebook records
  • Delete weeded or lost items and records
  • Receive and check-in UPS shipments boxes
  • Quality check items versus digital records
  • Distribute items to correct library sites
  • Approve invoices for payment
  • Process and handle all donation items
  • Process shipments from multiple AV vendors
  • Process and expedite special library program item orders
  • Maintain accurate and timely data base records and statistics.
  • Compiles statistical and monthly reports

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Demands: Light to moderate physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 30 pounds; frequent lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; may require frequent pulling, pushing, bending, and stooping; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens; vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents; hand/eye coordination for operation of a computer system, carts, and moveable shelving.

Work Environment: Works in a clean, comfortable environment.

Equipment Used: Frequently uses standard office equipment including a computer system.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree.

Experience: At least 2-3 years cataloging experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge: Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System; MARC records; cataloging basics; general cataloging frameworks (in particular, knowledge of RDA, or Resource Description and Access); cataloging and metadata frameworks (FRBR); HTML; routine software and business applications, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; Innovative interfaces online computer systems is a plus; library operations and functions is required to better understand operational needs.

Abilities: Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; highly organized; use general office equipment; performs basic mathematical calculations.

Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, time management and organization skills.

Licenses, Equipment, and/or Certificated Required: This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
