Role:

 Supervises, schedules, hires and trains page staff; assists patrons by responding to materials-related issues and resolves problems regarding overdue, lost or damaged materials; participates in the performance of page duties - checks in, sorts, routes and shelves library materials.

 Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 35% - MATERIALS HANDLING – Participates in the performance of page duties: checks in materials and sorts and routes materials to their appropriate location; prepares materials for courier pick-up and empties bins of materials from courier deliveries, placing items on carts in order to prepare materials for check in; shelves materials by placing materials on the appropriate shelf according to Dewey decimal number, author or title; may shelf read materials and shift and straighten materials; processes holds;   follows procedures for missing and damaged materials; and prepares and routes items needing repairs. E

 25% - SUPERVISION OF DAILY OPERATIONS – Supervises daily operations by getting information and making sense of it, communicating information to staff, organizing resources, and making decisions in order to ensure the proper functioning of the operational unit. Makes recommendations and takes the initiative regarding practices and procedures for pages. Consults with the Patron Services Supervisor to best direct the activities of pages. E

 15% - STAFF PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT – With input from the Patron Services Supervisor, sets performance objectives for staff; observes and documents performance; recognizes, rewards and disciplines performance; schedules page staff; plans and facilitates page meetings; trains staff; and recommends adjustments to pay in order to manage the pay and performance of staff. E

 10% - STAFF SELECTION – In conjunction with the Patron Services Supervisor, selects staff by interviewing candidates for vacant positions, assessing qualifications, and recommending for hire the candidate that most closely meets the desired qualifications at a starting wage reflective of the hiring strategy and overall staffing plan for the library. E

 10% - PATRON ASSISTANCE – Explains policies and procedures pertaining to the use and care of library materials; determines status of damaged and missing materials and administers charges as appropriate; and provides high-level customer relations by addressing and resolving customer account issues and complaints, or forwards to Patron Services Supervisor as necessary. E

 5% - OTHER DUTIES – Prepares statistical reports; participates in meetings, committees and other activities as assigned; assists in training volunteers involved in material handling; recommends budget purchases; and assists Patron Services Supervisor and Library Manager in order to ensure the smooth operation of the library. N

 Bachelors Degree

 Experience:

 Supervisory experience (preferred)

 Experience working in a library (preferred)

 Fluent in Spanish and English (preferred)
