Job Description

The Library IT Department provides to our Patrons and Staff, equal access to electronic information and education through cost efficient access to resources, services and programs utilizing progressive technology. The Library IT Department also supports and maintains library operations, staff and facilities to ensure the Library's technology is operating smoothly while developing and aligning the Library to 21st Century library and technology operations. The purpose of this position is to perform administrative, supervisory and specialized technical work in the configuration and production of data information services, including hardware and software for the Jefferson County Public Library.

Supervision of Operations Support Staff: Assigns, directs and supervises activities of professional and technical computer support staff, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures and standards. Assists and advises subordinates; resolving problems as non-routine situations arise. Administers or makes recommendations on routine personnel matters; to include: recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling assignments, appraising and disciplinary action.
Maximize Computer System Performance: Diagnoses problems, program failures or errors in operation, design and implement solutions. Diagnose and resolve problems in programs and software. Determines causes of errors or stopage and applies corrective steps to resolve the issue. Develops remedies to identify program deficiencies or operational failures.

Equipment Evaluation and Operation: Plans and directs equipment installation, operation and maintenance. Provides technical assistance to the IT Director for evaluation, selection, implementation and modification of system software, control systems, hardware and related services. Determines cost effective solutions for equipment purchases and use. Maintains liaisons with manufacturing representatives and other technical personnel.

Oversees the installation and maintenance of equipment. Responsible for optimal operation of all client and end user devices, server applications and systems. Researches new technologies, upgrades and applications for all areas of responsibility.

Workflow Processes and Procedures: Recommends, implements and improves routines, procedures and techniques and develops electronic forms. Documents standard operating procedures; responsible for creation of library-wide data archiving policies, procedures, monitoring and reports.

Help Desk Technical Support: Responsible for developing, updating, overseeing and directing the help desk to ensure a functioning and optimal end user computing experience across JCPL Library locations. To include: both internal and public computing programs and services on-line and on-site. Analyze service call history, identifies re-occuring issues and creates permanent solutions.

AV/Telecommunication: Creates, reviews and maintains audio/visual hardware, network operations, technical support and telecommunications procedures and documentation within the Library. Assists with IT Policy and Procedure creation and maintenance.

Works closely with and collaborates with the Network, Server, Digital Experience and Application Managers. Participates in strategic and budgetary planning procedures. Performs as back-up to the Director of IT.Qualifications:È
