Job Description

Share our vision to promote the value of literacy for kids, prenatal to elementary school age! Jefferson County Public Library seeks an innovative librarian with outstanding customer service skills and a great sense of humor. You will provide outreach services and make connections with the kids, families, and educators of Jefferson County. You demonstrate cultural sensitivity while delivering exemplary storytimes and early literacy coaching. You will effectively partner with staff to deliver system-wide services, programs, and resources serving babies to 5th grade in both physical and digital environments. You know your way around technology and have the ability to contribute to a social media and web presence that supports our vision. You are a strong and passionate leader who will help coordinate a team to sell the library and literacy to our community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
 · Knowledge of the Public Library Association’s ECRR initiatives. · Experience in providing literacy-based storytimes. · Identifying and implementing emerging opportunities to connect and engage with kids and caregivers of diverse backgrounds. · Managing projects that translate the needs and interests of a target population into effective outreach services. · Maintaining and cultivating contact with schools, teachers, community stakeholders, other libraries, state and regional associations, and professional organizations. · Leading cross-functioning teams to accomplish goals and objectives. · Creating library resources for kids and their caregivers, both physical and digital. · Coordinating and moderating social media efforts and a web presence for a target audience. · Evaluating and implementing new trends in library services to kids, with a focus on early childhood. · Staying current on children’s materials in print and digital formats. · Maintaining a flexible schedule. · Demonstrating a high level of energy and initiative while “on the move” with kids in various settings.

  • Experience presenting literacy-based storytimes in an outreach capacity.
  • Experience communicating with kids and families, educators, and community groups in an outreach capacity.
  • Familiarity and experience applying early literacy theory in an outreach capacity.
  • Fluency, both verbal and written, in English and Spanish.
  • Strong presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring adults.
  • Experience communicating and writing in a digital environment preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.
