Job Description

The Kraemer Family Library at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) seeks a reference librarian to provide reference desk service (including nights and weekends), deliver bibliographic instruction for English department writing program classes, co-teach a section of the Gateway Program Seminar 1010, and to participate with other library staff in formulation of library goals and policies.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service attitude

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience using LibGuides
  • Experience providing reference service through multiple means of communication: in person, chat, email, telephone
  • Teaching experience, preferably at the college level

Appointment and Salary: The successful candidate for this position will be appointed as a half-time instructor, 20/hours a week. Benefits include sick leave, vacation, 10 paid holidays per year, University group health care plan, group life insurance, and TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity.

Salary range $21,000-25,000 based on experience.

Prospective Timeline

The position will be available July 1, 2014.

Position Responsibilities:

1. Provide general reference desk service including in person, telephone, email and chat reference as scheduled including nights and weekends. 

2. Co-teach a section of GPS 1010, a freshman level course. 

3. Deliver information literacy instruction for classes in the English writing program as assigned. 

4. Create online library guides as needed for courses and other general topic areas. 

5. Assist with special projects as identified by the Associate Dean or Dean. 

6. Participate with other library staff in formulation of library goals and policies.

The Colorado Springs campus of the University of Colorado was established in 1965. The student population is approximately 11,000. Doctoral degrees are offered in engineering, geropsychology, educational leadership and nursing practice. The campus also has graduate programs in business, public administration, and a variety of arts and science areas. Colorado Springs, located at the foot of Pikes Peak, has a population of approximately 500,000, with tourism, high technology, manufacturing, sports and the military ranking as the key industries within the community.
