Job Description

Work in the Western History and Genealogy Department at the Central Library, 13th and Broadway, to provide department collection development, maintenance and evaluation within established guidelines. Exercise professional judgment to anticipate demand and address customer and staff requests.  Analyze, identify and respond to collection needs. Work with department Manager and Librarians to develop, design and implement services targeted to specific groups. Create positive experiences for library customers by performing professional work that includes reference service, reader and media advisory, tours, classes and working with teachers. Collaborate with department staff and other DPL departments to implement digital strategies, digital/web content and online exhibits. Use data to assess usage and popularity of department materials. Perform community and educational outreach. Staff a busy reference desk, serving a diverse clientele of all ages.

We Provide:

$22.41 - $29.15 per hour starting salary range; $22.41 - $35.87 per hour full salary range.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the branch and will include evening and weekend hours.

Knowledge of collection development practices and resources for Western History publications, history of conservation, fine print, artist’s and antiquarian books. Knowledge of purchasing practices and donation of materials including books, newspapers, serials, pamphlets, maps, municipal and regional documents. Knowledge of Digital Asset Management Systems, electronic records and resources. Skill in interpreting data from many sources in analyzing collection needs. Skill in analysis, negotiation and problem solving. Skills in social media and using technology required to perform assigned duties. Skill in providing reference, reader and media advisory service. Ability to work well under pressure and manage deadlines. Ability to demonstrate initiative and flexibility. Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity and sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups.  Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to communicate effectively.  Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software.  Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made. 

Two years of post-MLS professional-level reference work in a library. One year of collection development experience. Experience working with Digital Asset Management Systems and digital collections. Experience working with online ordering tools (preferred, not required).
