Job Description

** This position is contingent on availability of funding.   As a member of the Public Services Department, the full time position manages the Library’s access and outreach services including Circulation, Reserves and Interlibrary Loan. Develops and implements an outreach plan for the library including but not limited to coordinating outreach efforts and developing and carrying out a comprehensive marketing plan. Along with all other faculty members, provides reference service; serves as a liaison to assigned University departments, engages in scholarship and service, and performs other duties as assigned.

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Library Services will perform the following duties:

Administration

  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate classified and/or contract staff in Access Services department
  • Develop and communicate departmental goals and objectives to staff
  • Create job descriptions, have knowledge of and contribute to, policies and procedures for staff

Oversee Access Services -Interlibrary Loan and Circulation Departments

  • Provide leadership to, and back up for staff
  • Participate, with Access Services staff, in national and regional resource sharing projects and on the local catalog committee
  • Responsible for annual copyright reporting
  • Provide professional back-up concerning overdue items and fines

Coordinate the library’s outreach efforts, including but not limited to:

  • Developing goals and strategies for outreach
  • Representing the library at orientations, campus, and community events
  • Serving as liaison between the campus and the community
  • Chairing the Special Programs/Exhibits Committee and assisting other faculty and staff with outreach efforts
  • Developing marketing plan
  • Assessing outcomes of the program

Teach additional library instruction sessions as requested by the Library Instruction Coordinator or campus and community groups including:

  • Participating in the library’s instruction program
  • Developing and teaching course-integrated library instruction sessions

Provide reference and instruction services, including some nights
and weekends.

  • Provide one-on-one assistance at reference desk
  • Provide virtual reference services as schedule
  • Perform specialized database searching as needed
  • Teach classes for library instruction program including, but not limited to, classes in the liaison area

Serve as liaison to one or more academic departments, helping to coordinate collection management and instruction for the assigned subject areas.
Perform sustained inquiry into discipline leading to practical application within the library as well as research resulting in published or presented scholarly or creative output.
Serve the Library, the University, and the Profession through active membership on boards, committees, panels, etc.

Additional Info & Requirements

Preferred:

  • Experience in an academic library
  • Experience managing circulation and/or interlibrary loan 
  • Experience in Business Librarianship
  • Teaching/Library Instruction experience
  • Experience with public relations, outreach, or marketing
  • Strong commitment to customer service
