Job Description

Background Information:

Become a Senior Librarian at the Ford-Warren Branch, 2825 High St. at E. Twenty-eighth Ave., and work collaboratively with staff to provide services and materials to a highly diverse community of all ages. Services will support the Library’s strategic initiatives around lifelong learning, economic prosperity, providing early literacy experiences to infants through preschoolers, connecting with parents and caregivers, developing school-age readers,  reading and engaging in experiences that make Denver a better place to live.  The Ford-Warren Branch serves a diverse community with an emphasis on programs and services to enhance the lives of our customers.

What You’ll Do:

Create lifelong library customers by implementing and managing library services designed to meet the needs of customers of all ages seeking entertainment/information resources, professional reference assistance and excellent service.  Supervise the daily operations of a busy branch location including personnel and scheduling. Oversee the implementation of programming. Bring the library outside its walls in ways that support the needs of the community. Work with a team of Senior Librarians and a Manager to design and implement branch-specific and system-wide services.  Participate in system-wide cross functional teams to develop services in support of Library strategic initiatives. Communicate effectively about the Library, including issues and initiatives, with customers, staff, administration and volunteers.

You Have:

Knowledge of library services and popular materials for all ages.  Knowledge of current trends in library programming.  Skill in bringing imaginative programs to the public.  Skill in providing reference, reader and media advisory service.  Skill in merchandizing library materials inside the library and out.  Skill in providing strong, dedicated and compassionate leadership.  Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups.  Ability to select, train, motivate and supervise professional and clerical staff.  Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.  Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships.  Ability to model positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community.  Ability to multi-task and prioritize.  Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.  Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software.  Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made. 

Two years of post-MLS professional-level work in a library. 

A Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

We Provide:

$22.41 - $29.15 per hour starting salary range; $22.41 - $35.87 per hour full salary range.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the branch and will include evening and weekend hours.
