Research and Instruction Librarian

REPORTS TO: Director of Library Services

POSITION SUMMARY: The Community College of Aurora Library is dedicated to high-quality service and is expanding its services by integrating research and technology into the learning environment. Like other departments of the college, the library utilizes research and technology to enhance the learning process while also placing high value on collaborative working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members. The duties and responsibilities of this position require that the individual possess excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to deliver high quality, technology-based library research and instruction services.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Research and Instruction Librarian will support students, faculty and community members both face-to-face and online.

•Assist patrons with locating, accessing, and evaluating information using print materials and library research databases

•Develop instructional programs promoting information literacy and critical thinking techniques

•Develop research guides using LibGuides software

•Library orientation and instruction

•Provide professional reference services

•Virtual chat reference through AskAcademic

•Provide instruction in the use of information resources (both electronic and print) and technologies to classes, groups, individuals, faculty and staff

•Work with Concurrent Enrollment to support area high school recruitment

•Collect and analyze statistical data on the use of library resources to help track usage and gain funding

•Assist in maintaining the library collection and Koha ILS if needed

•Review professional journals and seek out professional development opportunities

•All other duties assigned to the Research and Instruction Librarian by the Director of Library Services.

Required Qualifications: (In order to advance in this search process, your resume must demonstrate that you meet all of the following required qualifications)

•Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university

•At least one year of recent reference experience, preferably in an academic library

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong computer skills including MS Office applications and Internet searching; experience in providing library reference and instruction services in an academic setting; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; energetic, self-motivated, able to multi-task.
