Library Manager

Pay Grade: 55
Compensation/Benefits - $57,244 - $77,448 /annually plus full-time benefits
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
Hours: Some days, evenings and weekends
Location: Carbon Valley Regional Library, Firestone, CO
Supervisor: Associate Director of Public Service
Supervises: Librarians, Page Supervisor, Patron Services Supervisor

Role: 
 
Manages the operations of a full service branch library and coordinates district-wide services and programs.
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
 
30% - PUBLIC SERVICE MANAGEMENT – Sets standards for the operation of the branch and District-wide efforts; develops and implements concepts, practices, techniques and innovations to improve the quality of service, challenges operating processes for greater efficiency and effectiveness, and facilitates problem solving.  E
 
15% - RESOURCE MANAGEMENT – Develops and manages an operating budget, oversees local collection management processes, facilitates the flow of information, distributes authority, and allocates resources in order to provide the necessary resources to accomplish the goals of the District.  E
 
15% - SUPERVISION OF STAFF – Gets information, makes sense of it, sets objectives, organizes resources and makes decisions, coach staff and provides feedback, manages conflict and appraises performance in order to optimize the expected performance of staff.  E
 
15% - PUBLIC RELATIONS – Represents the branch and District to community, business, government and social groups, agencies and associations through public speaking engagements, committee participation and membership affiliation, and provides formal responses to complaints and compliments expressed by the public.  E
 
10% - OPERATIONS CONTROL – Sets goals for the branch in support of District goals, establishes timelines for completion, monitors achievement, and oversees processes by reviewing reports from staff and Finance in order to control operations and achieve desired outcomes for the library.  E
 
10% - PATRON ASSISTANCE – Resolves patron complaints; assists patrons in the use of library materials and technology by guiding them in searching the catalog and stacks, accessing databases, and navigating the Internet in order to locate resources in the collection and on the World Wide Web.  E
 
5% - BACK-UP – Performs the duties of direct and indirect reports in their absence to ensure the proper functioning of the organizational unit.  N

The High Plains Library District is seeking a Library Manager who has a passion for high quality service, solid experience in public libraries, strong supervisory skills, and an enthusiasm for helping others succeed for our Carbon Valley Regional Library.
 
Located in the town of Firestone, CO, the Carbon Valley Regional Library is set in an open space that highlights the beauty of both Colorado’s prairies and mountains while having easy access to the Denver Metro area.  The 35,000 square-foot building houses approximately 113,000 items including movies, music, magazines, a Spanish-language materials collection, and plenty of books. The library also features a large meeting room, four study rooms, a vending café, and an outdoor patio seating area – all heavily used by the residents of the various townships that comprise the Carbon Valley region.  Valued by the community, the library maintains a special focus on early literacy efforts, including a variety of activity stations and events to help our young readers develop their love of reading and skill sets for life-long literacy.
