Job Description

Work downtown at the Central Library in the Western History and Genealogy Department to creates positive experiences for library customers by performing professional library work to a  diverse clientele of all ages.  Staff a busy reference desk as well as proctor in the Special Collection Reading Room. Use electronic resources and an extensive collection to answer reference questions and locate materials for customers. Communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers and administration. Assist in the development and maintenance of a special collection that requires specialized handling, security and subject expertise. Support with the department manager, Exhibits Committee and other staff with the administration of departmental exhibits.

$19.82 - $25.77 per hour starting salary range; $19.82 - $31.72 per hour full salary range.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, part-time, 20 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the branch and will include evening and weekend hours.

Knowledge of print and electronic information retrieval. Skill in operating a computer and organizing information. Skill in presenting information, both orally and in writing, especially for training library customers in the use of electronic resources. Ability to research and answer reference questions. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.

Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software.  Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service. Experience working with special collections preferred.
