Job Description

We are now accepting applications from dynamic and service-oriented individuals for the Government information Specialist positon in the Government Information Unit at the University Libraries.

The Government Information Specialist is specifically responsible for coordinating and managing the overall non-federal collection development strategy for the department. These efforts include implementing collection plans for the state and foreign collections, managing the Colorado documents collection, working with the item conversion/inventory team, and working with the manager of the federal needs and offers process. The position utilizes sound knowledge of government depository library principles and established project management techniques to analyze collections and resources, formulate strategies and develop processes to enhance the discoverability of information, improve the quality of the Libraries’ online database, and supply detailed and up-to-date records of the Libraries’ holdings for our customers and other libraries. This position liaises with the Libraries’ Metadata Services and Circulation Departments to insure physical and intellectual access to collections within national and organizational standards. The position collects, analyzes and presents statistics to support the work of the unit, and achieve administrative goals to reduce the size of onsite collections. This position provides individual research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and the public at the Libraries’ Research Desk as well as by phone, email, and instant messaging.

• As a government information specialist, you will: 
• Provide reference and research service
• Implement the Collection Development Plans for State and Foreign Documents
• Manage the Colorado Documents Collection
• Consultation/coordination with the Government Information Item Conversion/Inventory Project
• Migration and Ongoing Maintenance of the Government Information Website

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• 3 years recent experience in an academic library.

Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and abilities

• Demonstrated experience with library reference services.
• Demonstrated experience with website maintenance or the creation of LibGuides or other finding aids.
• Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated library system’s (ILS) cataloging and serials modules.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written oral communications.

Desired Qualifications

• Recent experience with government information materials in increasingly responsible positions.
• Demonstrated experience with Excel or statistics packages such as SPSS and others.
• Demonstrated experience with Drupal.
• Supervision of classified staff or student employees.
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or graduate level coursework in political science, international affairs, economics, history, sociology, or education.
Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
