Librarian – Part Time – $13.00-$15.00/hr
depending on experience
17 hours a week, Mon, Tues & Wed 5-8pm and Saturdays 8:30-5.
Responsible for basic public library reference services,
including readers' advisory, ILL, and online searching.
Requires a 4 year college degree with a minimum of one year's previous public service experience.
Reference Librarian – Part Time
Job Title: LA II – Reference (Part time) Department: Reference
Immediate Supervisor: Head of Public Services Non-Exempt
Basic Function: Provides reference and circulation services. Fills interlibrary loan requests received from library patrons and from other libraries. Shelves materials.
Physical Requirements: Hearing and vision corrected to normal ranges. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and push a loaded book truck weighing 120 pounds. Ability to reach up to seven feet to retrieve and replace books with a stool or ladder, as needed.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree required. One year of previous library or customer service experience. Ability to learn to operate equipment as required by the position; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and library patrons. Familiarity with personal computers and appropriate software required. May require a valid Colorado driver’s license.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides efficient, courteous public service and presents a positive image of the library in attitude, appearance and performance of duties.
- Orders, receives, processes, and returns materials borrowed through KOHA (library automation system) and SWIFT (Statewide Interlibrary Loan Fast Track).
- Fills requests received from other libraries through KOHA and SWIFT.
- Maintains necessary paperwork related to incoming and outgoing Interlibrary Loan Requests.
- Place holds for patrons on Security Public Library (SPL) items.
- Researches reference questions posed by the public using knowledge of this library’s collection and information resources available on the web.
- Instructs patrons in their use of the computerized catalog and the library collection.
- Shelves incoming newspapers and magazines for use by the public and sorts mail.
- Performs duties at the service desk , and the children’s rooms, as needed.
- Insures that circulation procedures maintain patrons’ confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to keep confidential records and perform routine tasks; learn library methods, techniques and computerized databases; work in a team environment; use good judgment. Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately; pay attention to detail. Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed.
