Description: Gain practical professional experience in a fast-paced academic library. The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries is looking for two Public Services Apprentices who will receive training in the research competencies and issues that are essential to new academic librarians. The apprentices will provide research assistance in person and virtually in a major academic library that serves a world-class research university. Requires a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend hours. This apprenticeship is a great opportunity to supplement your graduate studies with experiential learning.
Duties of the Apprentice:
- Provide research assistance at the Norlin Library Research Desk
- Staff the Library’s chat reference service
- Attend trainings, workshops, meetings, with ample opportunity for professional development
- Other projects or duties are possible based on the interests of the applicant and needs of the library
Additional Information:
This is a one-semester program with an anticipated start date of late August. Apprentices are expected to complete 120 hours over the course of CU’s Fall Semester (approximately 8-10 hours per week). Apprentices will be paid $1500 with the successful completion of the program. For full consideration, apply by August 18, 2014.

Qualifications:
- Must have a strong customer service orientation and a desire to provide high quality research assistance.
- Currently enrolled as a library & information science graduate student.
- Completion of or current enrollment in a library reference/research course
- Interest in pursuing a career in academic librarianship
