Job Description

The City of Fort Lupton is hiring a Librarian. We will either fill this position with one full time employee or two part time employee's.

AUDIO VISUAL LIBRARIAN

SUMMARY: Responsible for collection development and maintenance of audio-visual materials and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.
•Support the philosophy of the library.
•Uphold the patron's rights embodied in the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, the Colorado confidentiality law and the Library Bill of Rights.
•Uphold copyright and anti-discrimination and bias-free laws and regulations.
•Provide library services, guidance and available resources appropriate to users' needs, interests and abilities.
•Keep informed about progress and development in the library field and in audio-visual technology and materials. Stay abreast of what is new in the library field. Stay abreast of new audio-visual titles and formats and select appropriate materials.
•Organize circulation of audio-visual equipment.
•Troubleshoot problems with audio-visual equipment and coordinate repairs, cleaning, maintenance and inventory.
•Evaluate current audio-visual collection and remove outdated, under-utilized or otherwise no longer useful materials.
•Provide reference service to all patrons.
•Under supervision of the director, be responsible for public information and outreach regarding audio-visual materials.
•Selects non-print materials for the library collection. Follows applicable library and city procedures to purchase these materials.
•Provides formal and informal training to patrons in the use of the library resources, particularly in electronic sources.
•Compiles bibliographies and brochures to assist in using the collection and accessing electronic information; compiles bibliographies for patrons.
•Manages budget for the selection of audio-visual materials. Establish a plan for purchase and replacement of audio-visual equipment with approval or director, and offer workshops on new equipment.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
•Ability to use personal computer and appropriate software, library "Integrated Library System", audio visual equipment, fax, copier, multi-line telephone system.
•Requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to speak in front of large groups of both children and young adults for both training and entertainment.
•Requires solid knowledge of the principals and practices of professional library operation and library operating procedures and the ability to apply that knowledge to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
•Requires basic knowledge of, and the ability to use a personal computer to access the internet, use CD-ROM databases, perform word processing and access and retrieve other information as needed.
•Requires basic knowledge of computer operation, basic skills in computer operation and basic ability to access and retrieve information using a computer to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
•Requires good professional judgment and strong interpersonal skills in dealing with the public and the ability to interact successfully with all age groups; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and the ability to deal effectively with customers who may be difficult, angry, or disagreeable.
•Requires the ability to read, interpret, understand, and follow city and department policies and procedures in the daily conduct of the job, including, but not limited to: the city's personnel policies and procedures; department policies and procedures.
•Ability to understand verbal information and instruction. Ability to exchange information with others and to develop and present recommendations. Reads and understands written information. Ability to compose information and instruction in written form. Ability to translate verbal communication into effective written material; e.g., reports and other documents.


YOUNG ADULT LIBRBARIAN

SUMMARY: Responsible for providing young adult services and programming in the library and a variety of other library functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.
•Support the philosophy of the library.
•Uphold the patron's rights embodied in the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, the Colorado confidentiality law and the Library Bill of Rights.
•Uphold copyright and anti-discrimination and bias-free laws and regulations.
•Responsible for young adult collection development, programs, and service; Provide library services, guidance and available resources appropriate to users' needs, interests and abilities; organize publicize and conduct programs for young adults, both in and out of the library.
•Provide reference assistance and reader's advisory to library patrons in locating information and materials; instruct patrons in how to use library resources, including electronic resources. To include formal and informal training in the use of such resources.
•Stay abreast of what is new in the library field. Establish a plan for purchase and replacement of age appropriate library materials; select materials for the library collection and promote use of the library through the organization of programs, special services, and the compilation of bibliographies and brochures; evaluate current age appropriate collection and remove outdated, under-utilized, or otherwise no longer useful materials.
•Under supervision of the director, be responsible for public information and outreach including appropriate programs for young adult section of service population; conduct tours and provide research assistance for school programs and other groups.

•Requires basic knowledge of, and the ability to use a personal computer to access the internet, use CD-ROM databases, perform word processing and access and retrieve other information as needed.
•Requires basic knowledge of computer operation, basic skills in computer operation and basic ability to access and retrieve information using a computer to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
•Requires a solid knowledge of: young adult books and authors; fiction books and authors for a wide variety of reader interests, with special emphasis on young adult materials.
•Requires good professional judgment and strong interpersonal skills in dealing with the public and the ability to interact successfully with all age groups; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and the ability to deal effectively with customers who may be difficult, angry, or disagreeable.
•Requires the ability to read, interpret, understand, and follow city and department policies and procedures in the daily conduct of the job, including, but not limited to: the city's personnel policies and procedures; department policies and procedures.
•Ability to understand verbal information and instruction. Ability to exchange information with others and to develop and present recommendations. Reads and understands written information. Additional Info & Requirements

This will either be filled with one full-time employee or two part-time employee's. As a full-time employee there are benefits available.

The Community

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is general performed in an office environment where exposure to temperature extremes, contaminants, and noise are not normally encountered. Hazards are minor and controllable.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, use hands, fingers, handle, feet, or operate objects, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Employee must communicate clearly and effectively; must understand and be understood. On rare occasions, the employee may be required to climb and balance. The employee must occasionally carry, pull, push, or lift up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust his or her focus, allowing a broad field of vision. It is essential that the employee be physically able to operate a variety of computer and office equipment successfully in order to fulfill the essential functions of this position.
