Job Description

Human Resources Generalist

The Arapahoe Library District is looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our progressive library system. We are looking for someone with at least two years’ of HR experience with strong recruiting and performance management experience. Are you passionate about the library? Reports to: Human Resources Manager

Position: 40hpw, full-time, exempt, 8am-5pm Monday-Friday with occasional flexibility.

Hiring Range: $44,400 to $55,500annually, plus benefits

Role:   Responsible for the day-to-day administration of human resources services for supervisors and staff including employment, performance management, compensation, compliance and benefits.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
30% RECRUITMENT – Administers the recruitment process by developing job postings, posting open positions, screening the qualifications and credentials of job applicants, interviewing applicants, interpreting pre-screening assessment results, recommend candidates for potential employment and extending offers of employment.

30% PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT – Guides the performance process by advising employees about Library District personnel policies, guiding management with recognition and employee issues, recommending appropriate action, and assisting in developing employee competencies in order to support performance management.

15% COMPENSATION – Classifies positions in pay grades by analyzing job descriptions, researching and collecting local market pay data, assigning appropriate pay grades, modeling merit increases based upon performance levels and budget, analyzing pay equity across positions, updating the appropriate database, calculating compa-ratios and rates of pay in order to administer compensation.


15% COMPLIANCE – Researches and observes changes in legislation by monitoring changes in federal and state regulations, recommending changes in processes, assisting in developing policies, revising employee and supervisor handbook, and updating our employment practices in order to comply with personnel laws and regulations.


10% BENEFITS – Administer benefits by evaluating benefits practices, assisting with contract reviews and researching methods to reduce benefit expenses in order to achieve the greatest cost benefit to the Library District.

Qualifications:

  • At least two to five years of similar or related experience, required.
  • Bachelor's degree, required.
  • HR certification, preferred; or must attain certification within 1 year of employment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use tact and discretion in the conveyance of confidential information, required.
  • Committed to provide outstanding and personalized customer relations to patrons, coworkers and customers.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including compensation, benefits administration, performance management, federal and state employment laws such as FLSA, FMLA, ADA, COBRA, required.
  • Ability to focus on details, required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to diverse groups, required.
  • Backup for payroll, FMLA, workers' comp and benefits administration.
  • Intermediate technology skills including Windows 7, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook, PowerPoint, required.
  • Knowledge of Cornerstone OnDemand, preferred.
  • Knowledge of ApplicantPro, or other recruiting software, preferred.
  • Ability to organize work, determine priorities, handle multiple tasks, and problem solve, required.
  • Ability to travel to other work/library locations, required.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment, and make appropriate recommendations, required.
  • Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, including mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
