Job Description

Background Information:

Become a Senior Librarian at the Ross-Barnum Branch, 3570 W. first Ave. at Lowell Blvd., and work collaboratively with staff to provide bilingual services and resources to a diverse customer base that includes new immigrants and their families.  Adult and children’s programming will be focuses of this branch as part of a bilingual and intergenerational environment.  The Ross-Barnum Branch serves a diverse community with an emphasis on programs and services to enhance the lives of our customers.   

What You’ll Do:

Empower and serve a population aiming to learn and explore new frontiers.  Fulfill the expectations of a diverse population, in particular addressing the largest language needs, Spanish and Vietnamese, in our communities.  Design and provide programming and an environment that fits the needs of new immigrant families, bilingual families or those who seek to learn new skills.  Oversee the daily operations of a branch location including personnel, scheduling and customer service.  Communicate effectively about trends and initiatives with customers, staff and administration.

You Have:

Knowledge of providing library services to customers with diverse literacy, educational and technological needs.  Knowledge of current trends in library programming.  Skill in providing and instilling leadership.  Skill in providing programming and library services in a bilingual and intergenerational environment.  Ability to provide strong, compassionate leadership. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups.  Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity and sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community.  Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize.  Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.  Ability to select, train, motivate and supervise professional and clerical staff.  Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships.  Ability to use extensive technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software.  Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made. 

Spanish or Vietnamese language skills (preferred, not required).

A Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

At least two years of post-MLS professional-level work in a library. 

We Provide:

$22.65 - $29.45 per hour starting salary range; $22.65 - $36.24 per hour full salary range.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the branch and will include evening and weekend hours.
