Job Description

** This position is a one-year position ending June 30, 2015.   As a member of the Information Management Department, this full time position ensures that all information resources including print, audiovisual, and digital resources are properly indexed, organized, and cataloged in the library’s catalog and digital repository. Oversees day to day operations of the cataloging department including the description, organization, cataloging, and maintenance of monographs, serials, government documents, electronic resources, and audiovisual collections. The Cataloging & Metadata Librarian provides reference services (including some nights and weekends), acts as liaison to various academic departments, teaches library instruction classes, and serves on university boards and committees.

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Library Services – Cataloging & Metadata Librarian will perform the following duties: 

Cataloging/Metadata                                                                                   

  • Perform original cataloging and/or create metadata for unique materials such as theses, archival materials or digital collections using MARC, DC, or other appropriate metadata schema
  • Oversee copy cataloging and holdings record creation for all print, digital, archival and multimedia content including monographs, serials, government documents, electronic materials, etc. according to nationally accepted standards
  • Oversee bibliographic maintenance of all print collections including serials and government documents including serial check-in process
  • Collaborate with CSU- Fort Collins to implement, maintain, and administer local holdings
  • Collaborate with CSU- Fort Collins to implement and maintain shared institutional repository
  • Provide authority control and database maintenance of the online catalog and institutional repository
  • Oversee periodicals bindery process
  • Oversee the binding and processing of theses
  • Provide leadership in the development of new processes and tools for the organization and description of library content as needed
  • Provide ILS training for library staff as needed
  • Maintain statistics and generate reports for cataloging department
  • Assist with collection maintenance such as weeding and item withdrawals

Administration                                                                                 

  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate classified and/or contract staff in Cataloging department
  • Develop and communicate departmental goals and objectives to staff
  • Create and maintain job descriptions, policies, and procedures for staff

Provide reference and instruction services, including some nights and weekends.

  • Provide one-on-one assistance at reference desk.
  • Provide virtual reference services as scheduled.
  • Perform specialized database searching as needed.
  • Teach classes for library instruction program including, but not limited to, classes in the liaison area.

Serve as liaison to one or more academic departments, helping to coordinate collection management and instruction for the assigned subject areas.

Perform sustained inquiry into discipline leading to practical application within the library as well as research resulting in published or presented scholarly or creative output.

Serve the Library, the University, and the profession through active membership on boards, committees, panels, etc.

Preferred:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Business or STEM discipline.
  • Experience in an academic library
  • Experience in original cataloging/metadata creation
  • Experience working with institutional repository system
  • Experience with innovations in cataloging including RDA, FRBR, and FAST
  • Experience with Science and or Engineering Librarianship or Business Librarianship
  • Reference and library instruction experience in an academic library
  • Work experience requiring excellent organizational skills
  • Work experience requiring excellent communication skills
