Looking for a great opportunity with a growing Library District? Join the Garfield County Public Library District as manager of our New Castle Branch Library. The Branch Manager directs the day-to-day operation of the library and is responsible for public services, selection and circulation of materials, community outreach, facility operations and programming. The 11,000 square foot remodeled and expanded library opened in April 2012. This is an FLSA exempt position with a minimum of 40 hour work week, involving some weekends and evenings.
An American Library Association accredited Masters in Library Science (or equivalent) is required. Minimum of 3 years of library experience and 2 years supervisory experience is required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES
- Communicates in English with staff and patrons (both written and verbal communication)
- Lifts up to 30 pounds, pushes and/or pulls carts loaded with over 80 pounds of library materials
- Grasps book up to 10 pounds and place on shelf above the head, below the knees or anywhere in between
- Engages in repetitive hand movements
- Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods of time
- Tolerates dust, mold, etc. that may have accumulated on books
- Engages in bending, stooping, kneeling, sitting, walking, standing for long periods, twisting, climbing and any other necessary movements of shelving library materials and customer service
- Ability to attend meetings and conferences as assigned both in district and out of the district
- Ability to work in an environment with florescent lights
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- MLS or MLIS degree from a graduate library school accredited by ALA
- Enrollment in an ALA accredited MLS program plus relevant management and library experience may be considered (hired as a Branch Manager I)
- Previous management experience required
- 2-4 years of progressively responsible library experience preferred
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of public library functions
