Job Description

Do you love numbers, and telling the story behind them? Can’t wait to share why it is intriguing that 35 people came to a program? Do you have an eye for detail ? Then this is the job for you. Jefferson County Public Library is looking for someone who will track our stats, analyze the numbers, create interesting infographics to help us tell our story, mine community demographics and census data to garner insights into our community and help staff understand what we track and why it is important.

The data specialist will monitor, track, analyze and translate JCPL data and perform a wide variety of analytical duties. They will create reports and infographics to illustrate the impact of the numbers. They will work with and train staff in the correct reporting of data and analyzing trends. They will also serve as a clearinghouse for demographic and benchmarking data.

This position will:

* Define and implement rigorous assessment processes * Monitor, track, analyze, and translate JCPL data * Gather into evidence comparable stats to other organizations and align with stakeholder objectives * Perform a wide variety of complex analytical support duties related to organizational analysis and monitoring * will analyze complex systems, procedures, operations, and methods * will perform a variety of analytical and administrative tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119, and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association, as well as ADA.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Data Gathering: Define and implement rigorous assessment processes. Responsible for gathering community wide demographic information, program attendance, circulation numbers, and patrons use of resources provided by JCPL. Verify and validate all system wide public contact and use statistics. Work across departments with staff at various levels and across agencies in gathering accurate inputs, outputs and anecdotes.

Data Analysis: Analyze and translate the data, gather into evidence comparable statistics to other organizations and align with stakeholder objectives. Inform staff about resources and community data available through this role. Provide a wide variety of analytical and research support; analyze data and make recommendations; analyze historical data to plot trends; prepare profiles of area being studied; conduct needs and gap analysis. May participate with others in cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and objectives.

Development of Success Measures & Benchmarks: Research industry standards and benchmarks. Participate in the development of success measures for strategic priorities and other projects. Communicate measures and benchmarks to others. Work with project lead for continuous evaluation of success measures from project inception to completion. Prepare regular benchmarking data.

Reporting of Data Analysis: Develop reporting methods, forms, formats, data visualization tools for effective reporting and evidence based decision making on organizational progress on inputs, outputs, outcomes and impacts. Work across departments with staff at various levels, including senior management or cross functional teams in creating reports and reporting methods. Collect and verify information for annual reports. File annual reports to the state and other national organizations.

Training of Staff: Train staff in accurately entering data, understanding the meaning of terms, using organizational tools effectively for local data analysis, understanding the data and using it to meet organizational goals and benchmarks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates Degree; Bachelor's Degree preferred. A minimum of one year related experience (three years preferred)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

General computer/software - experience with MS word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.È

Additional Info & Requirements

Work experience with statistical analysis, working with demographic data, benchmarking and report writing is highly desirable.
