Job Description

We are looking for a unique combination of skills:  the detail oriented focus needed for cataloging and the ability/flexibility to work with patrons of all technical skill levels in our computer lab.

DEFINITION: Will provide support to library catalogers by cataloging and processing library materials (approximatley 20 hours/week). Will provide assistance to library customers in the adult computer lab (approximately 10 hours/week).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Provide support to library catalogers by cataloging and processing both print and non-print library materials. Copy-cataloging as well as some original cataloging may be required. Serve at a public desk (adult computer lab), interview patrons by telephone or in person. Locate information in assigned area using computerized databases and library tools.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a standard library environment, which includes exposure to dust. Requires the ability to move around the building and to access materials on shelves. Work requires light lifting/carrying, standing, walking, bending and sufficient visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment. Work requires repetitive motion to enter data on keyboard. Requires skills in working independently as well as with a group and communicating effectively with co-workers and a public of diverse backgrounds.

Two years of clerical and/or technical experience in a public library or area related to specific assignment. Knowledge of digital bibliographic records (MARC format) and integrated library systems required. Experience with the RDA and Horizon ILS preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency desirable. Ability to provide assistance and deal courteously and tactfully with library staff and patrons
