Job Description

The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries invites applications for the position of Electronic Resources Librarian.  This is a tenure-stream position reporting to the Director of the Metadata Services Department.  The Electronic Resources Librarian manages the Serials Acquisitions and Access Unit within the Metadata Services Department of the University Libraries. This Unit is responsible for acquiring the Libraries’ serials and electronic resources including databases, datasets, e-journals, and aggregator packages; compiling usage statistics; troubleshooting access problems; and managing the Libraries’ various electronic resource platforms and delivery systems. The Electronic Resources Librarian supervises 2.5 FTE staff.  Supervisory duties of this position include developing and implementing Unit goals and projects; establishing policies and procedures; and hiring, training, and evaluating staff.  The successful candidate will serve on the Metadata Services Department Management Group and Libraries working groups as appropriate.

The position includes significant responsibilities for research or creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado Boulder.

Appointment: 

The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty member. Minimum starting salary is $50,000. Depending upon professional experience and demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment may be made at the senior instructor, assistant professor, or associate professor level. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation; 10 paid holidays; liberal sick leave; excellent University group health care plans; group life insurance; TIAA/CREF, Fidelity, or Vanguard retirement/annuity; and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured faculty members are eligible for sabbatical leave.

Requirements:

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science
  • Knowledge of current issues and trends in electronic resource management
  • Knowledge of current technologies for data collection, manipulation, analysis, and reporting
  • Ability to develop projects that improve resource access, discovery, and assessment
  • Experience working with an Integrated Library System or a next-generation resource management system  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for collaboration, continuous learning, and customer-focused problem solving
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, nationalities, genders, and ages
  • Potential for research, scholarly work, and professional achievement

Preferred Qualifications:

Evidence of any of the following will enhance a candidacy:

  • Professional experience supporting electronic resource lifecycle activities in an academic or research library
  • Supervisory experience including training and preparation of documentation
  • Experience performing workflow analyses
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis and interpretation
  • Experience with harvesting/managing usage data and creating statistical reports
  • Experience conducting assessment of electronic resources use and discovery
  • Knowledge of copyright and Intellectual Property issues; awareness of issues surrounding scholarly communication and open access
  • Experience with electronic resources management systems, link resolver software, discovery systems, e-resource knowledge base systems, and proxy configurations 
  • Experience with the acquisition, access, and discovery of e-book collections
  • Knowledge of Resource Description and Access (RDA), the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2r), Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) and Library of Congress classification (LCC), and MARC21 formats for bibliographic and authority data
  • Knowledge of tools and techniques used in creating, extracting, and transforming metadata
  • Technical skills such as programming in JavaScript, Python, Perl, etc.; creating apps; building SQL queries; knowledge of HTML and web design
  • Evidence of achievement in research, scholarly work, and professional achievement
