ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

Instruction & Reference Librarian

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Head of Public Services, the Instruction and Reference Librarian advances information literacy across the undergraduate curriculum.  In collaboration with departmental faculty, the librarian designs instructional materials and teaches and promotes information literacy within an outcomes assessment and skills-based model.  Works with other instruction librarians implementing a multi-faceted instruction program and provides high-quality, innovative and user-oriented instruction services to a diverse body of faculty, staff, on-campus and distant students.  Additional responsibilities include user-centered traditional and virtual reference services that are high-quality, innovative and user-oriented to a diverse body of faculty, staff, on-campus and distant students.  

Some of the Advisor’s essential duties and responsibilities include: 

• Collaborate with the faculty to create information literacy curricula, lesson plans, and specific assignments that develop specific skills that can be integrated into courses and academic programs.

• Work individually and seek active partnerships with fellow librarians, teaching faculty and other program staff to make recommendations on course design, assignments and instructional options.

• Provide reference services to faculty, staff and students both locally and at a distance, through individual consultations, chat and regularly scheduled reference hours including evening and weekend rotations.

• Participate in the collection development process as a library liaison assigned to academic departments.

• Develop and maintain research guides and tutorials and assist with web development.

• Assist in the planning, implementation and assessment of library programs, policies and procedures.

• Participate in the work of committees for the library, university and professional organizations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: An ALA-accredited Master’s Degree; knowledge of national standards and guidelines for information literacy instruction; instruction and reference experience; knowledge of information literacy practices and reference resources; knowledge of and experience with instructional technology. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:  Excellent written and oral communication skills; three years’ experience providing instructional and reference services in an academic library; demonstrated success in teaching.

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Full-time, administrative appointment.
