Job Description

Library Associate - Outreach

Pay Grade: 31
Compensation/Benefits: $15.22 - $20.59 / hour, plus part-time benefits
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
Hours: Part-time; Some days, evenings and weekends
Location: Outreach Department, Greeley, Colorado
Supervisor: Patron Services Supervisor
Supervises: None

Role: 
 
Drives Outreach vehicles to off- site locations to assist patrons with information and educational requests, handles material check in and out, coordinates and assisting with programming.
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
 
25% - PATRON ASSISTANCE – Assists patrons in the use of library materials and technology by guiding them in searching the catalog and stacks, accessing databases, and navigating the Internet in order to locate resources in the collection and on the World Wide Web. E
 
25% - INFORMATION NAVIGATION – Locates requested materials and information sources in order to satisfy patron requests for library materials and information. E
 
15% - PROGRAMMING & OUTREACH – Plans informative and entertaining programs and outreach events such as school visits and computer classes for patrons by identifying and accessing audiences, recruiting attendees, accessing resources in the collection and the community and coordinating such programs and outreach events in order to promote use of library resources and represent the library district to the community. E
 
15% - CIRCULATION – Checks out and renews materials; assists patrons with self- checkout and checking in materials; issues and updates library cards; and follows procedures and collects money for fines and over-dues; processes holds; checks in materials and sorts and routes the materials to their proper location in order to assist patrons with borrowing of materials. E
 
10% - COLLECTION MAINTENANCE – Finalizes the processing of new materials by date stamping and/or placing collection identifying decals on materials; assists Librarians with weeding by pulling materials from shelves based upon a weeding list; informs Librarians about gaps in collection in order to maintain an appealing, current, and useful collection. E
 
5% - SHELVING – Shelves library materials by loading carts with returned materials; placing materials on the appropriate shelf according to Dewey decimal number, author name, or title in order to return materials to library shelves. N
 
5% - OTHER DUTIES – Assists with providing website content, maintains periodicals, creates and maintains bulletin boards and displays, and assists Supervisor in order to ensure the smooth operation of the department. N
 
Minimum Requirements:
 
Education: 
 
Bachelor’s Degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience
 
Experience: 
 
One year of related experience
 
Skill in Windows, MS Office Suite, and MS Publisher
 
Valid Colorado Driver’s License and a good driving record.
 
Personal vehicle
 
Able to drive personal vehicle or mobile unit to deliver programs and services.
 
Experience presenting and providing library services to customers who may not have literacy or technology skills (preferred)
 
Multicultural skills and sensitivities to ethnic, linguistic and cultural groups (preferred)
 
Able to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently (preferred)
 
Or any combination of education and experience which provides the success factors.
