Job Description

Job Overview

The Auraria Library is searching for a dynamic, innovative and tech-savvy librarian to fill our newly created Access and Public Services, Department Head position. The Access and Public Services, Department Head will lead a team that consists of seven full-time employees and numerous student workers. The Access and Public Services, Department Head will provide leadership and guidance for variety of services including: circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan, document delivery, consortial resource sharing, stacks management, media collections, disability services, and the Library’s integrated public service points where customers get assistance with their general information needs, with first level of reference, with technology questions. This position requires a strong commitment to public services coupled with a vision for using emerging technologies and evidence-based decision practices to develop, implement, and assess services.

Compensation: $65,000-$75,000 commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Five years of relevant professional experience in access and public services, reference, circulation (including an integrated library system), interlibrary loan, document delivery, and/or course reserves.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.

Ideal Candidate:

Our ideal candidate is a librarian that has a passion for creating an exciting, future-oriented library. Our ideal librarian will draw on their management skills to lead the department staff to establish workflows and processes to support the Library’s strategic goals. They will come equipped with experience working in an academic library environment in a variety of access and public services functions including: reference, circulation including an integrated library system (such as Innovative), interlibrary loan, document delivery, and course reserves. They will also have assessment experience in access and public services areas including collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.

The Auraria Library is located on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver, Colorado and is administered by the University of Colorado Denver. The Library serves 45,000 students from three institutions of higher education on the Auraria Campus – University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver. The Library welcomes over 900,000 visitors each year.
