Job Description

HCL is currently seeking a Learning & Development Coordinator to provide leadership for HCL regarding Learning & Development. This person will conduct on-going Library learning and development needs assessments, determine learning and development tools and approaches and coordinate education and learning opportunities to Library staff for successful job performance. This person will also be responsible for identifying internal and external training opportunities and supporting management in the identification of training needs.

The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Create and support a learning environment in the Library based on both the organization's and individual's needs
  • Partner with the Library's leadership teams to define learning needs and design library-wide learning and development programs and courses to meet staff needs
  • Conduct ongoing needs assessment; assess learning and development needs through surveys, interviews, focused conversations and consultations
  • Identify learning and development opportunities to equip staff with the knowledge, practical skills and motivations to successfully carry out goals and objectives
  • Select, develop and coordinate specialized training to Library divisions utilizing a mix of eLearning, classroom and on-site methods
  • Provide customers learning and development solutions for the Library
  • Formulate and manage different types of learning and development delivery
  • Serve as department expert in learning tools and application
  • Conduct evaluations of learning and development programs and develop recommendations to improve effectiveness

Additional Info & Requirements

Best Qualified Candidates will have:

  • One of the following:
    • Master's degree or higher in library science (from an ALA-accredited college/university), adult education, human resource development, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position PLUS three years of experience in general administrative work relating to the departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position
    • Bachelor's degree in adult education, human resource development, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position PLUS four years of experience in general administrative work relating to the departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position
    • Approved equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with design and management of learning opportunities
  • Ability to further the mission, vision and goals of Hennepin County and Hennepin County Library
  • Customer focus, strategic business partnering and understanding of organizational culture
  • Experience collaborating with other departments, community groups or agencies to coordinate services
  • Excellent group facilitation, communication and consulting skills
  • Understanding of other cultures and commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion
  • Experience managing complex projects and implementation across multiple locations while working in a large organization
  • Ability to build trusting relationships
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Advanced knowledge of public speaking, professional writing and presentation skills
