Job Description

The Education and Outreach Services, Department Head leads the Auraria Campus’s efforts in information literacy and develops, coordinates, and executes services and programming related to the educational needs of the undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty of the Auraria Campus’s three institutions of higher education.  The Education and Outreach Services department is housed in the Education, Research, and Access Services (ERA) division and reports to the ERA Associate Director.

The Department Head supervises a team of librarians and staff and establishes workloads and monitors progress and best practices, creates annual performance plans, evaluates performance, and provides mentoring and coaching. The Head recognizes strengths and capabilities in others and delegates responsibility encouraging leadership to be shared. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills and will demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and the ability to plan strategically while managing change in an exciting, complex environment.

Compensation: $65,000-$75,000 commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Five years of relevant experience, especially in leading services, in an academic or research library.
  • Two years of supervisory experience in a library.

Ideal Candidate:

Our ideal librarian is a dynamic, technology-adept visionary who continually transforms and assesses education and outreach services in a changing environment by actively tracking and interpreting trends related to academic department needs, technology, and the Library. Our ideal librarian leverages his/her passion for education and outreach to work successfully with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including international scholars, faculty, and students. He/she has experience building working relationships and collaborations with academic programs and/or higher education faculty. He/she has experience employing quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies for programmatic assessment. This librarian holds an advanced degree in a discipline relevant to the portfolio of services offered by the department. They will leverage their expertise and knowledge of learning management systems (LMS), to lead a project focused on the big picture integration of libraries into LMS’s (current systems are Canvas, Blackboard, and Desire 2 Learn).

The Auraria Library is located on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver, Colorado and is administered by the University of Colorado Denver. The Library serves 45,000 students from three institutions of higher education on the Auraria Campus – University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver. The Library welcomes over 900,000 visitors each year.
