Job Description

The John F. Reed Library provides library public service to the Fort Lewis Community and the general public. This position oversees the day to day operations of the Circulation Department within the library. Position oversees the work of the Library Technicians I and II and shares in the supervision of 15-20 student workers. As the supervisor, this position is responsible for the management of the circulation desk and its coverage for our patrons, therefore  will be required to work closing shifts and weekend shifts due to lack of coverage. Provides supervision, training, scheduling, evaluations and time sheet approval of the student workers. Provides service to patrons with the automated circulation system, collects money owed, negotiates customer complaints/concerns and oversees the circulation of Library books, videos, maps, reports and course reserve materials. Determines the daily activity of the Circulation Department by maintaining the schedule of circulation functions including head counts, student supervision and training, shelf plants, changes in the library hours due to finals and breaks, maintains department statistics, recommends policy & procedures to immediate supervisor, facilitates weekly team meetings. Responsible for the library accounts receivable process and the patron database management as well as the physical and electronic course reserves system and the consortial borrowing system. Supervises library stacks maintenance. Provides general maintenance for copy machines, online systems, personal computers and fax machine and requests service for equipment. Provides reference assistance to patrons in the absence of reference staff and promotes library services.
