Job Description

What You’ll Do:

Work downtown at the Central Library in Western History and Genealogy to create positive experiences for library customers by performing professional library work including reference service, tours and classes. Use electronic resources and an extensive collection to answer reference questions and locate materials for customers. Staff a busy reference desk, serving a diverse clientele of all ages. Promote community outreach and programming. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers and administration. Research and answer written reference questions and assist with various departmental projects. Assist with social media posting for the department.

You Have:

Knowledge of the history of the American West with emphasis on Denver and Colorado. Knowledge of genealogy. Knowledge of archives and preservation. Knowledge of neighborhood and building histories. Knowledge of print and electronic information retrieval as well as digital resources. Knowledge of social media and its use. Skill in working with various media. Skill in presenting information, both orally and in writing, especially for training library customers in the use of electronic resources. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to creatively problem solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.  Ability to use extensive technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software.  Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made. 

A Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

One year of post-MLS professional-level reference work in a library.

Experience working with children and children’s programming (preferred, not required).

Excellent customer service skills.

We Provide:

$19.83 - $25.77 per hour starting salary range; $19.83 - $31.72 per hour full salary range.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week.  The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and WILL include evening and weekend hours.
