Job Description

Jefferson County Public Library has an exciting opportunity for a Promotions and Marketing Manager. Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) is the third largest public library in the state of Colorado. We have10 libraries serving the citizens of Jefferson County. Our mission is to meet the changing needs of our communities by providing information and environments that promote personal growth and community transformation. The Promotions and Marketing Manager plays a key role in meeting these needs and serving the patrons of JCPL.

The Communications Unit at the Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) develops and implements strategies to maximize communication between staff, departments, the public, the media and other outside agencies. This position develops and implements marketing campaigns to create awareness and increase participation in over 350 library programs per year. In addition, this position manages employee communications via print and electronic media; assists with media relations and manages key library/community events. This position also works with JCPL administration, the Libraries and all JCPL departments in marketing and promoting Library programs, resources and events, which may include but would not be limited to: creating advertising, signage, print publications and electronic content and announcements; utilizing appropriate media channels; planning and coordinating Library events; developing and coordinating social media plans and programs; and measuring and reporting results. This position supervises a Digital Marketing Specialist and reports to the Communications Director.

Marketing and Promotions Initiatives - Oversees the creation and development of promotional materials for library programs and events and assists and/or coordinates library staff in the development of promotional materials; ensures consistency with Library brand and graphic standards; plans and coordinates public/community events, programs and community activities in the promotion and marketing of the Library; and assists the Library’s Foundation with similar communications support. Manages the production and dissemination of public information via print, video and electronic resources; edits articles and/or materials generated by other personnel; produces a monthly electronic newsletter to Library patrons; writes, edits or approves communications content; and coordinates print, graphic and web services. Manages the Library’s advertising program (print and electronic), in support of key library programs and events. Coordinates special projects. Ensures strategic integration of marketing initiatives across multiple formats and channels.

Supervision of Digital Marketing Specialist - Oversees the Library’s presence in approved social media networks. Supervises a digital marketing specialist position and oversees the development and implementation of social media plans and programs; monitors networks and ensures consistency of Library messaging, positioning, brand and graphic standards.

Communications Strategy & Tactics - Contributes to the development and implementation of annual communications plans and programs to support Library goals and objectives. Leads the development and implementation of marketing and promotions plans to support Library goals and objectives. This position focuses primarily on the marketing and promotion of library programs and events and provides support to employee communications, media relations, community relations and the Library’s Foundation. Assists with the communications initiatives to create awareness and support of the Library’s resources, strategies, growth, development, campaigns, initiatives, community relations and other official matters. Performs other related work in support and advancement of Library operations as needed or required.

Media Relations - Supports the Library’s media relations efforts by maintaining relationships with media contacts; fielding media inquiries; developing press releases and support materials; serving as a designated spokesperson for the organization and pitching/distributing calendar items, press releases, feature stories, letters to the editor and other media tactics.

Employee/Internal Communications - Assists in communicating the direction and strategies of the Library with and to employees via internal print, video, electronic and other communication resources. Manages the production of a weekly employee newsletter; interim employee communications and develops key content for the employee intranet. Facilitate communication using email, meetings and telephone. Edit articles and/or materials generated by other personnel. Develop relationships with employee members in order to divulge necessary information. Assist with special projects and activities to encourage and maintain a beneficial work environment.

Community Relations - Represents the Communications department on various library, community, county and state committees with regard to Library matters.

Administration - Contributes to effective department and library operations by monitoring expenses, completing reports, participating in meetings of the Combined Management Team and performing related work in support and advancement of Library operations as needed or required.
