Job Description

Background Information:

Work at the Hadley Branch, 1890 S. Grove St. at W. Jewell Ave., to bring bilingual library services and resources to a diverse customer base that includes new immigrants and their families.  Intergenerational programming is a focus of this branch, as is serving adults and their families as part of a diverse and vibrant neighborhood library.

What You’ll Do:

Empower and serve a population aiming to explore new frontiers.  Fulfill the expectations of a diverse population, in particular addressing the largest language needs in the community, Spanish and Vietnamese.  Design and implement programming and an environment that fit a diverse community, including new immigrant families.  Provide reader’s advisory and reference assistance.  Staff a busy reference desk, serving a diverse clientele of all ages and with a broad range of interests.  Promote community outreach and programming.  Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and administration. 

You Have:

Knowledge of providing library services to customers with different levels of literacy and/or technology abilities.  Skill in providing programming and services in a bilingual and intergenerational environment.  Skill in providing reference, reader’s and media advisory to all ages.  Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community.  Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.  Ability to perform community outreach and programming for all ages.  Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software.  Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made. 

A Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or plans to receive one within 90 days.

Spanish language fluency (preferred, not required).

Experience providing high volume, innovative library service (preferred, not required).

Experience providing storytimes for children (preferred, not required).

Excellent customer service skills.

We Provide:

$19.83 - $25.77 per hour starting salary range; $19.83 - $31.72 per hour full salary range.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, part-time, 20 hours per week.  The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours.
