Job Description

The town of Lyons is accepting applications for a part time Library Assistant and/or Library Intern, minimum of 7-9 hours per week, starting at $12.60 per hour and may include some weekend hours.

This position provides friendly, high quality customer service to library clientele and performs many support activities involved in operating the library by assisting the Library Director. Assumes responsibility of daily library operations in the absence of the Director. The assistant / intern will work directly with the public to help them fulfill their information needs. Provide assistance at the single service desk providing circulation and reference services, reader’s advisory, may process interlibrary loans, recommend materials for purchase, assists with library programs and displays, instruct patrons in the use of equipment, answer telephone, orient patrons to the Library and its services, etc. Performs special duties as assigned.

The Lyons Depot Library is housed in a temporary location on Main Street while its permanent home undergoes renovations after being damaged by the September 2013 flood.


Requirements:
• At least one year library experience or currently enrolled in an ALA accredited Master of Library Science Program.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of library principles and practices.
• Knowledge and experience with standard office software and computers, coupled with the ability to assist the public in using personal computers and products to search for information.
• Must be flexible, dependable, detail-oriented, and efficient.
• Possess good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative, friendly, and courteous working relationships with supervisor, colleagues, volunteers, and the public.
• Ability to work independently, as well as with others, and regularly takes personal initiative to successfully complete duties and responsibilities.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work, as well as respond to varied work demands.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the public.
• Relish helping others enjoy and use library resources.


Preferred:
• Interlibrary loan and cataloguing knowledge.
• Experience with computerized circulation system.
• Interest in supporting and developing library programs for all ages.
• Applicants preferred who live in the Town of Lyons or immediate area.
• Desired commitment a minimum of two semesters (for library interns)

Lyons has a beauty, ruggedness, and historical appeal that spring from the surrounding sandstone cliffs and the sandstone buildings throughout town. It is located at the confluence of North St. Vrain Creek and South St. Vrain Creek, 20 miles east of Rocky Mountain National Park. Lyons is located at the intersection of State Highway 7 and U.S. Highway 36 which both lead to Rocky Mountain National Park and because if this Lyons is sometimes referred to as “The Double Gateway to the Rockies.”

In addition to natural beauty, Lyons is home to a thriving community of artists, writers, and musicians. Lyons is home to two annual music festivals at Planet Bluegrass: the Rocky Grass Festival and the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival. Lyons also hosts several other annual festivals and parades. The Town of Lyons hosts a free summer concert series in Sandstone Park, and several commercial venues host live music events year round.
