Job Description

Background Information:

Become a Librarian at the Bear Valley Branch, 5171 W. Dartmouth Ave., and bring an enthusiasm for service to customers of all ages in a changing community.  A strong emphasis is placed on providing programs, materials and reference services in an exciting, efficient and friendly environment.

What You’ll Do:

Create lifelong library customers by implementing welcoming library services designed to meet the needs and expectations of a diverse community.  Provide readers advisory, reference assistance and programming.  Support excellence in collection maintenance.  Participate in community outreach in a variety of settings. Effectively communicate the value of the library to customers and the community.

You Have:

Knowledge of the value of the library in the 21st century. Knowledge of developing and presenting programs for all ages. Skill in using and assisting customers with technology.  Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in designing eye-catching displays and merchandising library materials. Skill in providing reference, readers and media advisory service to all ages.  Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to use technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software.  Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

Experience developing and presenting programs for all ages. 

Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service (preferred, not required). 

Spanish language fluency (preferred, not required).

A Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or plans to receive one within 90 days of hire.

We Provide:

$19.62 - $25.50 per hour starting salary range; $19.62 - $31.39 per hour full salary range.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, part-time, 20 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the branch and will include evening and weekend hours.
