Job Description

What You’ll Do:

Work downtown at the Central Library in the Western History and Genealogy Department to create positive experiences for library customers by responding to in-person, email and phone requests for information regarding the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division during WWII, including personnel, history, operations, equipment and other related questions.  Provide tours to visitors, professional library reference service and reading room proctoring for a diverse clientele of all ages.  Conduct outreach and facilitate donations of appropriate archival materials for addition to the 10th Mountain Division collection. Attend 10th Mtn. Division meetings and functions and communicate with the National Association of the 10th Mtn. Division’s staff and members.  Process archival manuscript collections and write EAD finding aids. Use electronic resources and extensive collections to answer reference questions and locate materials for customers.   Communicate effectively with customers, coworkers and administration. Assist in developing and maintaining a library collection requiring specialized handling, security and subject expertise.

You Have:

Knowledge of the history of the American West with emphasis on Denver, Colorado.  Knowledge of the history of the 10th Mountain Division. Knowledge of print and electronic information retrieval and trends in digital library collections.  Knowledge of library preservation issues and care of archival material.  Skill in presenting information, both orally and in writing. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate a strong customer service ethic, a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to be highly organized and work with attention to detail.  Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software.  Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made. 

A Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service required. 

We Provide:

$19.62 - $25.50 per hour starting salary range; $19.62 - $31.39 per hour full salary range.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Limited-term, part-time, 20 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours. This is a fully benefited, temporary position that is scheduled to end on December 31, 2015 with potential for longer employment.
